This one is actually animated, if you watch it closely the stars get more and more visible.

Thank you for applying to the design team! I would first like to give you a little advice that will help you in the long run. When altering the size of the focal, hold "Shift" when using the transform tool. This will keep the images proportions correctly, and won't give the focal a bulky, stretched look. Another good tip is when you finish a signature, create a new layer, go to Image and select " Apply Image". Set the mode to normal so that all it does is create a layer containing all your effects into one layer (All your other layers are still there). Then, go to filter and select "Sharpen". Finally erase ONLY the area around the focal in THIS layer. Once that is done, lower the opacity so that is between 5-20. That will make your focal stand out more while adding a little depth to your signature. If you want any more help just let us know and we'll do what ever we can to help you improve upon your skills.

for now lets try to work with one signature at a time.

it's oversharpened, and you can tell by looking at her skin. It should be soft and glowing, instead it looks like she's sweating sand.

try to avoid using the sharpen on human flesh. It doesn't take effects very well.

also, I see that you added a light source, remember that for every light, there is a dark. You need to burn the her underside to create a deeper shadow for the added light.

you also streched her out a bit. her face looks a bit long to me know. Always try to not distort the stock image you are using.

good text placement, and decent effects.

Please try to make the adjusments and post the revised signature.

From now on, lets just work with one or two at a time, so we can go into deeper detail.

Hey Cute,

You've definitely got a lot of potential.

One thing I notice is that you tend to do a lot better with anime and game characters when when it comes to working with images of people, you struggle a little.
That's perfectly NORMAL! A lot of designers struggle with using real people in designs. =)

Here are a couple of tips for you

Avoid putting effects over your focal.

Here you have one little sparkle on her face, and that one sparkle is enough to throw the whole signature off. That's the only thing that I can focus on! Try to avoid effects on the focal. Sometimes a few effects on the body or hands work in some rare cases, but NEVER on the face. =)

Try to keep your focal proportionate when you resize it.

As Radio already said, her face is long now. It makes her look a little funny and when you first look at it, you can definitely see that something is off. Make sure that you have holding down the, "Shift" key when you are resizing so it doesn't stretch funny.

Also, using that same signature, make sure to watch your coloring. You did some short of effect to that signature to make her look like she's coming down from pink eye! Make sure the whites of human eyes stay white and don't get discolored. Also a good thing to keep skin tones natural and not like blue or green. (Not that you used blue or green! Just for future reference)

Try to avoid a lot of empty space

Here you have your focal, but then you have a lot of empty space around her. I would suggest adding some C4ds or fractals to fill the void.
(Also, the thick white border around her doesn't help blend her in at all. At the end of the day, you want your focal blended into your artwork. The border is very distracting.)

Here is a pretty cool tutorial that you can try. Although i'd suggest using your Rule-Of-Thirds when you place your focal. =)

Hey Cute!

XDC Rave XS & I sat down and discussed your application. We like most of your work and we would like to consider accepting you, but we both agree that we need more work to go off of. Please be certain to keep up with all of the weekly test images. And anything else you do for people in the community, please post it here.

Thanks!

Thank you so much for the feedback guys! I'm not going to lie, I was kind of discouraged when it came to my app. I thought maybe I wasn't doing anything right lol! But with all the feedback you guys have given me, it has definitely lifted my spirits! I'll get some of the older weekly pics done and posted, as well as the newer ones. Sorry for the slight inactivity.

I had a lot of trouble with this one, at first I tried to keep the original background, and I just couldn't seem to make it work. So I took the focal out and then created my own background with it. It took me a few tries to get a crop/placement that I liked, but overall i'm pleased with the outcome.

Tell me what you think!
