It's not if you have ever played the guitar. It's your willingness to play it often. With me, I'd rather go with an electric guitar than a acoustic guitar. They are just more fun to me.

lol i couldnt ask for like a 200 dollar guitar (i know they are NOT that much, but you get my point)

and i guess its better to start out slow then work your way up

To me, I don't see any use in getting a crappy guitar. The bare minimum I would spend on a guitar would be around $300 to get good quality but whatever you want to do is fine. If you don't want to spend to much, then don't. Just practice with it and you will get better.

if it was my money, i'd buy an electric Guitar, but those can range from anywhere from what i've seen $200 - $400. or i could ask for a $70 guitar and be happy with it... hmm

I wish I had drums! I have two guitars. An esteban acoustic, and a Washburn electric that I got off of craigslist for $80!

I have yet to learn how to play. Darn time.

I know how to play both... am pretty good as well. Been asked to join a few local bands but declined feeling that I am not really inspired to write my own music, rather listen to others.

I have a 1975 Fender Stratocaster pearl white collector's edition. appraised at around $4000. Ya it was awesome, until the strap slipped off and i smashed on the floor. with the paint chip it has now, not worth much in coinage. but still the one guitar i will never let go off. sounds beautiful.

i have a BC rich mockingbird electric and a fender acoustic/electric.

learning a few songs here and there is actually not difficult... you can learn to play smoke on the water, iron man and a few easy songs (normally excluding the solos) quite easily, but to actually understand scales and be able to write your own music takes much more time. if you keep it up you will develop an ear for the guitar... i know personally i sometimes listen to music and i realize that i actually didn't even hear what the singer sounded like i was listening to the guitar only...

it's a lot in how much you play... do you have someone who will show you some pointers? in my opinion it is more difficult to play the acoustic than the electric. it seems the action (action on a guitar is the amount of space between the strings and the neck meaning you have to push the strings further down) is normally higher on acoustics, but maybe thats just a coincidence for me...

the only surefire thing to do is practice, practice, practice...

also this may be a shortcut many people are interested in... the new rockband 3 is going to offer an actual six string guitar, so you may get to learn to really play the guitar... not a piece of plastic. i don't know how it's going to look/feel yet, but it would be cool if it was an exact guitar that you could actually learn

Hey I Have An
Acoustic - Takamine G Series EG540DLX
Electric - Ibanez G Series GRGA32T

I've Only Been Playing For 4 Years But. In Most Songs They Use Chords. But This Depends on Genre.
Most Harder Rock/Metal Usually Use A lot Of Power Chords
Acoustics Use Basic Chord Progressions.
And All Others Using Riffs Come Up With It From The Basic Scales.

Basically If You Learn The Scales and The Basic Chords And You Should Be Set. After A Bit Of Playing You'll See What Notes And Chords Go Together And Sooner Or Later You'll Be Making Your Own Music.

Remember All Solos Are Based On The Scales So If You Know What Key The Song Is You Can Apply The Scales In There In A Random Order And There You Go A Solo That Fits The Song.

I have a walden acoustic, a epiphone masterbilt acoustic, and my epiphone SG. I like the acoustic guitar more cause its just more mellow and chilled. I write my own stuff and I've played shows up here in cleveland at the House of Blues. I just like jamming on my acoustic in front of people, its just so relaxed and its a lot of fun. Definetly worth learning to play
