Just wondering if there are any file sharers here and whats XGC opinion on file sharing. I love gaming but I would be totally restricted to practically no games, movies or music if I didn't pirate. I can't afford the stuff any ways so I am not hurting anyone :D express your thoughts.

as a company we don't officially have an opinion on file sharing that i'm aware of. We definitely do not support it, because it is illegal. but we are aware that it is still a popular option for many of our members. You will not be kicked out or anything for downloading stuff from a file sharing website, but we also do not support the notion of pirating goods

Fully against it. A lot of developers will go out of business as a result of file sharing, eventually there will only be a few left and that will mean very limited choice.

THe part that says I would be totally restricted to practically no games, movies or music if I didnt pirate literally make me ill. the part about it not hurting anyone is simpleminded and childish. Someone has put alot of work into those games, music and movies so yes you are hurting someone. How about you getting a job or heres an idea, turn on your radio or tv and play the games you do have. I am not naive to think that noone pirates but the sheer audacity of you blatantly professing this is rediculous. I play on 3 platforms and pay for all of my games. I buy cd's and rent movies. THis is definately a subject that warrants censorship if anythinng does.

wow, i'm glad to see people's opinions on this matter... I am really surprised that we didn't have a slew of people that fileshare. i think a few years ago the reactions might have been different as society's view on filesharing has changed a lot since the days of napster

I just wanted to apologize for being so harsh in my previous post. I do not know you or presume to know your situation nor am I in any position to judge. That post has been bugging me since i posted it and i fully expected to recieve a PM from a higher up. THat is not why I am apologizing though, I am apologizing because it is the decent and right thing to do. So with that said, happy gaming.

you aren't ever in trouble for having an opinion, bottom line. you weren't in trouble so don't worry about it anyway. people have strong opinions about many things in their life, and that's your business. he asked a question and he got your answer.

this is kind of a stretch, but i wanted to point it out. Strong opinions are why we don't talk or have groups aimed at religions and politics. Many people have strong opinions about those subjects and no one is right and no one is wrong, that is why those subjects are particularly difficult.

That being said, i'm very happy to see people's opinions on this matter and any other question in the forums. i'm glad you posted your honest opinion. i enjoy seeing the world through others eyes when i agree with them, and when i don't

Don't know why your saying sorry Bluedog. It is people like TC that are destroying the gaming industry, or if you want to take another look at it putting game designers, writer ect out of a job.

You can buy games for next to nothing if you look about, you don't have to play the newest games. I buy hardly any games but I don't go out and steal (yes filesharing is stealing), I wait until I have money and buy the games I want a few monthes after release when it's atleast half price.

I can't say what I want to you TC as it will get censored, by let's just say I really really don't like you or any other filesharers for that matter.

I know, but i dont have the right to talk down to someone. Its not my place. I still do not think its right and yes it makes me mad. I am here to meet new friends and play video games not dog someone out over a comment they made here. Thanks for the support though, its much appreciated.

No problem lad. I'm here to make friends too BUT want to be friends with someone that is in all fairness destroying a hobby that I love. Just look at what happened to the PCas a format.

And I'll be honest I do think myself better than a thief, which to be fair is what he is.

At the end of the day this is my very strong opinion on the matter. I cannot and will not agree with ANYONE that says filesharing and stealing in general is ok.

Well if anyone is interested and whats to know how it works or need help getting onto any of the great sites just hit me up. Believe it or not majority of people who pirate buy the **** they like, I would if I could. Pirating is a way of sharing materials, anything such like books and knowledge as well. You can always pirate and be a die hard supporter it just gives you the benefit to try it before you buy it, so to speak...

What do you think demos are for?

At the end of the day it's stealing. Hope your xbox gets permanent banned and you eventually get fined by the right holders of the stuff your stealing.

I mostly listen to internet radio anyways, so there isn't really much need for pirated music, plus the risk you take with getting some infection or a root-kit, nothing is free it all comes at some price. It is all just a hassle really it is too easy to do it right, I just use iTunes to manage it.

I'll be honest, I used to pirate pc video games etc a couple of years back, and even shared those files with my friends. I was younger and more egocentric, therefore unaware of the larger impacts of 'E- theft' I guess you could call it.

I stopped however in early 2008 after I visited a small time games developer in NZ (which are rare to find I must say) and the lead designer explained just how much they were struggling due to the piracy of their product. He explained how their were more developers once, but many were shut down as the theft of the games was just taking most of the profit they had hoped to receive.

Hearing the impacts first hand stopped me from doing it fullstop. I want there to be more small time developers. I don't want them to suffer because people like myself were too cheap to purchase a game which cost like $12 online. So I now have a opinion that opposes file sharing.
