Here is a first for the news team, expanding from only games to include technology:
Today, Apple held a "Let's Rock" press event geared toward their music business with some updated products and new features.
The iPod Nano got a refresh with a sleek new look, motion controls, and an updated User Interface. New models will be available in 8GB for $149 and 16GB for $199. Another cool feature is the "Shake and Shuffle" feature; by shaking the iPod nano songs will be shuffled and play automatically. The Nano wasn't the only iPod that got an update; The iPod Classic will be getting a change in its size. There will no longer be an 80GB or 160GB iPod Classic. The new "one size fits all" configuration will be 120GB for $249, 104 extra gigs for $50 is just too good of a deal to even consider the Nano in my opinion but I personally never liked the nano's size. The iPod Touch will also be getting a few updates as well as built-in Nike+ support for you runners out there. You'll just need to purchase the shoe transmitter to get going. The new Touch will sport speakers and volume controls on the body of the device like the iPhone. Now available in 8GB ($229), 16GB ($299), and 32GB ($399).
iTunes 8, which launched today, will include a new feature: Genius. This feature will bring social music to iTunes and iPods much like Last.fm, Pandora, and Zune Social. Genius will be able to analyze your music collection (anonymously) and compare it to other collections to make recommendations. Kind of cool, but unlike Last.fm or Pandora, iTunes will suggest you buy the song instead of just streaming it for you. Still, both services are available for the iPod Touch and iPhone so Genius could make a nice companion feature, also: Apple announced that NBC Universal would be coming back to the iTunes Store.
All the new iPod's are available today along with the new headphones with built in volume support and song switching.
