I suppose the first question should be, "Are there any real life proofreaders involved with the Xiled Gaming community..?"
I will wait for on topic replies before I post the reason for my inquire.

THAT IS TO SAY, "PROFESSIONAL PROOFREADER."

That is to say, "Professional Proofreader."

I seem to enjoy the task. Hence my inquire. Believe it or not, its FUN to me. And in the hopes of finding a new career, "it was my intention to utilize the networking capabilities of XGC."

CURIOSITY..?

Curiosity..?

How do I ask this next question? I don't want to know your salary. I'm more looking for information like; Does the doctor pay you a bonus on top of other pay? Is it a separate contract? Does he pay you per so many words? Does he give you a project and hands you the $$$? I'm gonna' use this information to gage bids I would make on a freelance site.

F.Y.I., If you get paid for it, that makes you a professional. Have you done any other proofing..?

I get paid to proof read what the doctor writes some times, but I would in no way call myself a professional proof reader.

Sorry, but getting paid does not make you a professional. Getting paid means you have a job. Being a professional encompassess way more than pay.

I'd say that if you make a living out of it or could if you had the needed information, then you would be a professional. But that's just me. I agree that just because you get paid to do something does not make you a professional. Just look at teachers haha!

i worked at burger king in high school, does that make me a professional chef?

anyway i don't get any bonus for it... he pays me hourly, so any jobs that i do on his time are encompassed by my hourly wage... the only way that would be different is if he gave me something to do and told me to take it home and work on it on my own time... in which case we would have to work out an agreement for pay for that...

literal definitions and societal definitions are much different... we would be a boring race if everything by defined literally by websters and we all accepted that without question

A POLITE ATTEMPT AT GETTING BACK TO THE TOPIC...

A polite attempt at getting back to the topic...

The debate on, "To be or not to be professional" arose from a statement made by Bluedog. "Sorry, but getting paid does not make you a professional. Getting paid means you have a job. Being a professional encompasses way more than pay."

Ref. "Getting paid means you have a job."

Note; One is expected to act professionally if one expects to get paid.

Ref. "Being a professional encompasses way more than pay."

Note; The only thing that encompasses way more pay is how much more professional one conducts themselves in regards to their responsibilities.

I'm a professional bagger? L.O.L.!
*Escapes the urge.* Incriminating evidence to say the least i.H.L.7... My guess is that you, consolidate items into plastic or paper bags after clientèle have made their purchases. However, in the vastness of imagination, one could literally let it all hang out. and make an incorrect assumption thus, creating all kinds of havoc.

Literal definitions and societal definitions are much different... We would be a boring race if everything be defined literally by Websters and we all accepted that without question.

Any difference in definitions are irrelevant. Unless referencing the literal definitions of other societies. Literal and societal definitions can not exist without each other. It would be better stated; "Literal definitions lie within societal definitions." Neither are accepted without question. To exist without question, would result in the Human Race being a bore. Websters or any other conglomeration of definitions, are simply the tools by which our conclusions are met.

Meanwhile, there has been no other definition offered, literal or societal. Until one is offered, I'll agree with you Coleslaw. And to circumvent the boredom created by accepting without question, I'll ask a rhetorical question in a facetiously cynical manner, "Why is there thread hijacking happening by going off topic." It'll be much more interesting when & if a few of the 39,999+ members we have, happen to be proofreaders, editors and the like and they find my inquire.

;)

And should lack of intelligence deprive a correct answer. The guilty shall face punishment adhered to most efficiently by a firing squad of their peers.

Maybe this should have been proofed first? =) (No period here hun...a comma would be more appropriate) No offense...I just couldn't help myself given the topic of discussion! :D

also...

"If my answer frighten you, then you should cease asking scary questions..!"

It should either be "if my answers frighten you" or "if my answer frightens you" to be grammatically correct. Also, you can't end a sentence with "..!" if you're trying to be a proofer :D Again, so offense, it's just ironic =)
