Nice job for a first attempt. I'd recommend that when using text you render the coloring of the text to be a bit darker and maybe a color that doesn't get thrown off by the placement of the design. The blue would work if it was outlined because the shadowing doesn't really stand out with the background matching the shadow color. The light blue seems to blend in with the color of the design and makes it seem blurry when it's really not an outline would fix this. Just some suggestions of my own. You're definitely on the right path I'd experiment with it until you find which colors seem to blend the best with certain designs and soon you'll be a pro!

here is another one i just made along a different line let me know what you think. This one is very basic i didn't want to go too fancy mainly just getting used to the different options with the program.

if youre practicing sigs then make sure theyre 500x200 or smaller. 500x200 is the maximum size allowed for a sig on this site.

& thats good that youre playing around with the program, i do that all the time to learn new things.

the color scheme isnt too bad, i wouldnt have made the effect on top of her so strong though, id def erase some, itll make her stand out a little more. also if you add a little bit of blur to the background itll def make her stand out a bit more also.
