I couldn't squeeze a more official comment about this little tidbit out of anyone, so for now take it for what it is: An interesting and completely unsubstantiated rumor.
A reader sends word that Epic's upcoming Xbox 360 title Gears of War might support video chat in the lobbies of the multiplayer portion of the game.
While I can totally see this happening, mostly to support Msoft's soon to be released video camera, I'm not so sure this really adds anything to the game or that I want it.
It's one thing to be able to see the cringing face of the person you just picked off with a single headshot or to see their outrage as you chainsaw them to death, but I don't really want to sit in a lobby afterward and be able to put a face to the endless stream of teenspeak that is seemingly always spurred by a sound defeat.
What might be cool is a little in-game window that shows the live camera stream of different opponents. Think Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, but with an image of the player instead of his avatar's perspective.
