HALO 3 TACTICS.

I personnally am not a fan of halo 3. it's unballanced weapons and cheap tactics, aswell the lack of any game meaning any more than shooting people drives me nuts. however most of my friends enjoy playing and they always want me to play, so I find myself playing anyway. over the years I've learned a few things about the usual behaviors people exhibit, and have decided to design a thread based on that. I will share bits and pieces of information that will help an experienced gamer become a phenominal gamer.

I will start with a singular piece and if anyone else would care to add any advice or tips they are free to.

after a person achieves a kill, almost ninty percent of the time they have something of a cool-down period, in which they will stay in the area where they just killed the person for a little bit. this is the perfect time to pounce on them because they will still have thier nerves a little shot. think about the weapon they are using and figure out what will combat it and how to combat it. find something near you and proceed directly to where you got killed and most likely you will find the person who just killed you, only this time you're ready. this also works backwards. after killing someone expect that they will be back. it's a bit of an odd psycological thing where people usually return to where they were to find where they are going. instead of staying in the same place because they will be expecting you, move your position around A corner so as not to be in the same place. though don't lose sight of where you were. by changing your location you gain the element of supprise and thereby an ability over your opponent. after entering the room they will mostlikely search thier corpse for anything they can salvage, (shotgun bullets, sniper rifle ect.) and at that point they are the MOST vulnerable simply because thier attention is taken away. this tactic has worked for me for years and will work for you if you use it right.

the biggest tactic is dont be greedy, people tell me sorry for taking your kill, i dont care as long as we win im good, if you try to be number one then your gonna end up rushing and dying.

For my MLG team its stay close with your partner shoot at the same target, anybody with an orange service tag try to help out the most, and push together never push alone, also stay back some and weaken the enemy as much as possible and he will always die somehow

also STRAFING is a necessity

Know the call-outs.

Become familiar with and accustom to play with people who can accurately call out whats going on in specific areas of each map. This helps to keep your teammates aware of who is where and whats happening. Even just telling your crew where the opposing sniper is, or if someone is one-shot in a certain area makes a huge difference.

Control power weapons.

Each weapon spawns at a determined time throughout the match after being picked up. They also respawn if someone leaves the match and it goes to black screen. Become familiar with the respawn times, even keep a small timer next to you to remind you when theyre back. Power weapons often make the difference in a match, and controlling them effectively as a team will increase your chances of winning dramatically.

Lead your BR shots.

Due to varying connection speeds/etc, your should try to lead your BR shots slights, placing the reticle just in-front of whoever your shooting at, almost the edge of their body in whatever direction their running in. Also, keep your first 3-4 bursts centerred on your opponents body, using the last burst as a head shot. (3 body shots, 1 head shot = 4 shot BR) This is the easiest way to bring someone down with a BR, which is one of the best weapons in the game. Practice with it, become proficient with it, it will make a huge difference

Objective strats.

Work with the same teammates to come up with well coordinated pushes for whatever gametype your playing (on all maps). Know the quickest way to get to the flag, know where the power weapons are, have each person know what theyre doing as soon as the game starts, and practice these strats often against randoms to improve how well you work together.

Know how to effectively use frag grenades. Understand Halo 3's textures react somewhat realistically, learn what surfaces nades stick to, and which ones they bounce like a rubber ball off of. Learn how to bounce grenades around corners, and keep in mind how long they take to explode. Also keep in mind after a frag nade has hit any surface, it will explode a second later. If it has not hit anything since it left your hand, it will not explode until it does.

A little trick I use is if you have an overshield power up next to you and you know the opposing team is coming, do not pick up the OS until you have either begun to be shot at, or know with out a doubt that you are about to be attacked, because until your OS is fully charged you are invincible to anything other than assassination.

Get the jist of spawn points. You can never always 100% know where someone is going to spawn but the chances are they will spawn according to where your team is located, it's different on each map but if you keep note, after a decent amount of playing you'll be able to predict their general location.

Watch halo 3 mythbusters on youtube... every episode! You will learn some useful tricks that most people don't know about. (No I'm not going to list them, didn't I just tell you... Go watch them!!!)

I'm pretty sure you guys covered all the rest I can think of. =)

Greatest tactic is to have fun. No matter how good you are if your not having fun it diminishes confidence and skills. I used to be part of some MLG/GB teams that was sponsored, making a name for ourselves, that could compete with semi and pro teams. But we cared too much about winning and started to blame each other for the losses we got. Eventually we disbanded, but were still friends. Do what you love, love what you do.

But tactically is all about decision making. I cannot emphasize enough how many games I have lost because somebody rushed too early, didn't help out a teammate, pulled the flag at the wrong time. Halo is a game mostly based on skill and teamwork, but 99% of it is based on strategy. From the start of a match to the last kill, flag cap, point all you are trying to do is outsmart your opponent. You may have an almost perfect startup to a particular map that works 99% of the time. But once it fails you have to figure a way to on how to use your next spawn. Its all about experience. The more you play, the more you understand on how to get out of difficult situations. Its more important to break an opponents setup than to keep your own, my opinion.
