Halo Legends
By Sam Kennedy, 07/23/2009
In an article about videogames invading Hollywood's turf, the LA Times (via Kotaku) revealed Microsoft's Halo Anime project. Titled Halo Legends, the project is a series of seven short films from five different anime production studios set to release on DVD/Blu-ray and via digital download platforms next year. The news comes in conjunction with San Diego Comic-Con, where Microsoft will officially reveal Halo Legends and show a trailer at a panel.
The five anime studios working on the Halo Legends short films are Bones, Casio Entertainment, Production I.G., Studio4 C, and Toei Animation, and the creative director overseeing production for Microsoft is Shinji Aramaki, director of "Appleseed" and "Appleseed Ex Machina." Aramaki will be directing one of the short stories himself, one that focuses on the history of the Spartans. Speaking about the project, Aramaki, a Halo player, said that he "liked that this would be an anthology of human stories told from different characters' perspectives." At Microsoft, the project is being overseen by 343 Industries, the name of its division in charge of everything Halo. Check out the LA Times article for more, and stay tuned for more info on Halo Legends from Comic-Con tomorrow. Also, look forward to seeing a preview of the films on Xbox Live this fall.
