Here it is! My first official Playstation 3 review. And what do I have behind my magical cape? KILLZONE 2. First off I want to point out that for just purchasing my PS3 this was game in particular was a good purchase. I could name off my second purchase which turned out to be a fail in my book *cough* Resistance 2.
Killzone 2, the third installment starting from the beginning Killzone for Playsation 2 and Killzone: Liberation for the Playstation Portable. This exciting first-person shooter embarks you on the continuous battle on Helghan the home-world for the Helgeist, who invaded the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA). You play Sergeant First Class Tomas “Sev” Sevchenko a withdrawn and contemplative man who is set on, or ordered to, enter the final battle to stop the forces of Colonel Mael Radec! Who seeks to destroy his home-land of Helghan, to reclaim Nuclear Codes and reign as a powerful evil to be reckoned with. Followed by his army of Helghast and under the leadership of Scolar Visari who is the ruler of the Helghan planet responsible for re-militarization of the Helghast army.
Good:
Visuals: 10/10. The graphics are fantastic! The cut-scenes make up the best of the game. I personally love to feel like I’m in the game and that I can feel when someone is shot or feel the concussion of a grenade. There are no jagged edges between the characters and when you cut from one part of the level to the next there are no time-splits to where everything has to focus.
Weapons: I loved personally using the shotgun at any given time. Sure it was good use for up close encounters, but I loved the thrill of the headshots and watching the body fly aimlessly to the ground headless. I also enjoyed using the sniper rifle. At first it was tricky to get the handling down, because whenever you moved your PS3 controller the scope would shake, but when I got a steady hand I blew the enemies head clear off!
Online: The multiplayer makes us for the short story. I enjoy playing online and enjoy the different game types. I spent hours playing Warzone and camping with a sniper.
Bad:
Time: The game was too short. The game calculated the time I spent playing and to complete was only 6 hours. Somewhere in between you could have added maybe 5 more hours of game play. Disappointing for such an exciting game.
Variety: It was too one-sided. Mix it up! You get thrown into a mission given to you by your commander or captain and it usually involved taking out an enemy supply. Get’s boring and dull. Can you say nap time?!?!
Enemies: I got frustrated with this particular part of the game. The enemies were too strong. For some reason the shotgun differed from a rifle? I would use the assault rifle and aim at the skull and shoot a full clip and the enemy wouldn’t decease. But a shotgun would surely decapitate him. RPG MONSTERS RAWR! You could shoot a RPG at an enemy and he would still live, but it was a over kill on the protagonists character. The enemies would shoot 2 to 3 missiles at once across the level and hit me and it would be a one-shot kill, but I could launch 1 missile and watch him shrug it off like a bug.
If you’re are into short but entertaining first-person shooters. This is a definite recommendations. Online is fun and the story is sure intriguing.
DK gives 9/10.
