What does it mean to become a great team leader?

Walter J. Lippman said, ?The final test of a leader is that he leaves behind him in other men the conviction and will to carry on.? Leadership is fundamentally about influence; it is about influencing people for great purposes.

It may seem more necessary for an General or a Section leader to become a great leader, but even the lowest person on the clan totem pole can become a leader because any person can have influence. Warren G. Bennis said, ?The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born.? Most leaders are not great leaders, and becoming a great team leader does not happen by birth or by accident?it takes dedication, good decision-making, and years of learning by experience.

Who do you want to follow? Who are the people who challenge you to be your best and make you want to do your best? Who are the people who have passed on their ideals, standards, and character traits to you? These are your leaders?look at them for examples of what a leader is and does.

In a survey, Generals overwhelmingly named communication as the most important skill of a leader. Great leaders recognize leadership as a two-way street of communication?they communicate goals and objectives, and they heed the advice and feedback of team members.

Becoming a great team leader means becoming a person who has a vision beyond today. Beyond that, however, it means influencing others with that vision and empowering them to move on it?all the while staying just a step ahead.

The Xiled Gaming Company is looking for leaders to run XGC Clans on other games and platforms, from xbox and the playstaion2 (3) to the thousands of PC games out there.

We are looking for those individuals who want to step forward and grab the brass ring, to take a step away from thier current postions in a Halo 2 Clan, and grow XGC into the largest online gaming community ever.

If you are interested in taking this huge step, and would like more information or would like to request a clan on a specific Game or platform please email us at:

http://kog.xgconline.com/news.php

As everyone knows XGC is a mature gaming community for those members 18 years of age and up, but there are many professional gamers online that are under this age, so we have decided to establish the KoG.

This area of XGC will consist of professional gamers under the age of 18, it will follow all rules and regulations, in regard to the honor code, and will be set up in the same manner as XGC.

Just to clarify, KoG IS XGC! We are a branch of XGC. XGC is for gamers 18 and up while the new KoG branch is for gamers 17 and under. NO ONE UNDER 18 IS BEING BOOTED FROM XGC.

Anyone wanting to transfer over from XGC needs to personally contact either XGC KN1GHT XI or XGC x0 0 7x XI. No one else will let you in besides them!

I hope that current and future KoG members can get to know one another and have a fun time playing online! And I look forward to meeting many of you and watching KoG grow.

XBOX 360 LEADS THE WAY IN HIGH-DEFINITION ENTERTAINMENT

Xbox 360 Leads the Way in High-Definition Entertainment

Just a month after the global launch of the new Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system, Microsoft® Chairman and Chief Software Architect Bill Gates discussed the product's strong momentum in delivering high-definition hardware, games, and digital entertainment experiences. Xbox 360 is on track to be the fastest-selling video game console ever, forecast to ship between 4.5 million and 5.5 million units worldwide by the end of June 2006.

Gates noted that Xbox 360 has also become a powerful application for high-definition television, adding that nine out of 10 Xbox 360 owners currently own or intend to purchase a high-definition television set.*He announced that more than 50 new high-definition Xbox 360 games will be available by June 2006.

Building on Xbox 360 leadership in high-definition experiences, the company announced plans to deliver a new Xbox 360 external HD DVD drive in 2006. The new drive will offer millions of Xbox 360 owners the ability to easily enjoy HD DVD movies and will provide consumers with even more choices for experiencing high-definition content, in either physical or digital form.

Using Xbox 360 and the Xbox Live® service today, consumers are already able to access high-definition entertainment such as Xbox Live Arcade titles, game demos, and high-definition movie trailers. Consumers can also use their Xbox 360 system to access high-definition television and movies from their Windows XP-based Media Center 2005-based PC.

Gates' keynote also showcased the momentum behind Xbox Live, announcing that more than half of all Xbox 360 owners are already connected to the online games and entertainment service, which boasts a worldwide community of more than two million members. He demonstrated Electronic Arts' forthcoming EA SPORTS™ Fight Night Round 3, scheduled to release in February 2006, and announced that a free, playable high-definition demo of the game is now available in the Xbox Live Marketplace, a one-stop digital download center where consumers can access high-definition games, music, and movie content from leading industry partners.

Basically this means another accessory for the 360 consoles. There has been no information about a price or a release date for the external HDTV drive. Personally I rather have had the thing in my 360 when I bought it.

*Information gathered from Microsoft's xbox 360 site.

YOU HAVE QUESTIONS? HERE'S A FEW COMMENTS THAT MAY ANSWER THEM.

You have questions? Here's a few comments that may answer them.

xgc_home_2.jpg

As you're sitting there in the pre-game lobby "enjoying" another meeting, or in a post-game lobby after being cheated, have you ever wondered; "Why do I play Halo2?" and/or "Why have I chosen to be a part of such a large gaming community like XGC?" And speaking of XGC, why are there so many rules? What's the big deal about this whole "Chain-of-Command? Why does it seem as though my efforts are never noticed? When am I going to get promoted? I'm going to attempt to answer a few of those questions for you.

You keep playing Halo2 because it's one of the greatest games ever made. Xbox Live is the perfect platform for this game (minus the whole non-dedicated servers issue so no one can bridge for host and therefore cheat you out of that rank you've worked so hard to get) and you can sit in pre-game lobbies with your friends and clan-members just chatting it up. What about that isn't there to like?

The next question is harder to answer. Why are you a part of such a large gaming community like XGC? I'm suggesting that it's because of the diversity of people/gamers that you have the opportunity to meet. Think about it, you get to sit in your living room or bedroom or den (wherever you play Xbox Live at) and get to travel all around this country and/or world. Think of the friendships that you've developed with your fellow gamers. Think about how you grow closer together as clan-members while playing games together. After playing so many games with these people you get to know more about them and it's no longer just a game, but a part of your daily "fix". You learn what your Xbox Live friends like and don't like, where they come from and what they think. Their lives now have an impact on yours whether it be a little or a lot, and those people go from being an online friend to someone that you consider a true friend. I know that's why I came to XGC when we started it, and that's why I'm still a part of XGC.

There’s also the fact that in a large gaming community like XGC, you’re allowed to find your niche and do what your best at. If you’re the kind of person who just wants to game, then you can do just that. If you like to recruit, then that’s what you can do. If you want to be a leader and you exhibit the kind of leadership skills that are needed here in our community to be a leader, then there’s a place for you here to. There are so many different things that you can do in a large gaming community that you can’t do in a small clan. Web design, graphics design, leading 30-60 man clans or supervising up to over 2000 members, there’s a special place here for you.

But, being in a large community means that there needs to be some order in a world (and not just the gaming world) full of chaos. Our ranking structure is not there to create power-hungry jerks, but to deligate authority over a wider leadership base so no one person gets overwhelmed. Please utilize this structure, it's there for a bunch of reasons; the most important one is to be there to serve you, our members. Our rules are here to help maintain order and discipline in our already large and still rapidly growing community. There aren’t very many of them, they’re not that hard to follow, but all of them are extremely important to game by. For those of you who have no problems with the rules or Chain-of-Command, GREAT!!! For those of you who think that they’re stupid and there doesn’t need to be any, then I challenge you to consider whether or not this is actually where you want to be.

As far as whether your efforts are noticed, trust me ladies and gentlemen, they are. Unfortunately when you run a community this large, there tend to be people out there who want to do nothing but come in and cause problems. I can’t tell you why they do that, or what their ultimate goal is, but it’s a fact in Xbox Live and we need to learn to live with it. Please don’t lose patience with this, remember the large picture and where we’re going as a community. When there are so many small (and sometimes larger) issues to deal with, those of you who do an awesome job don’t always get the verbal accolades that you deserve. Believe me though, your efforts are noticed and appreciated.

For those of you who wish to get promoted, your time will come. Let the leadership in your clans know that you’re interested, but don’t get annoying about it. Show your leadership skills by stepping up and helping out wherever you can, whenever you can. Those efforts will be noticed, and the opportunities to be promoted ARE out there. Sometimes you just have to exhibit patience, which is a trait that you need to have to lead mature people who are spread out all over the world!

Keep on Gaming and keep doing what’s right. Thank you for deciding to be a part of something much larger than yourself and take pride in that fact. There is a lot to be proud of here in XGC, and there is still a lot of work to be accomplished. Find your niche and excel there, and while your at it, ENJOY YOURSELF!

HALO 3 PARRYING PLAYSTATION 3 LAUNCH

Halo 3 parrying PlayStation 3 launch

Time quotes Bill Gates saying that Sony's next-gen console will "walk into" the Xbox 360 follow-up to the best-selling sci-fi shooter.
For months, the Web was rife with rumors that Microsoft would ship the sequel to Halo 2 for the Xbox 360 simultaneously with the launch of the PlayStation 3. Now, that has been confirmed--by none other than Bill Gates himself.

In next week's issue of Time Magazine--which features Gates holding the Xbox 360 on the cover--Gates mentioned plans for the release of the much-anticipated follow-up to the best-selling console shooter. In a parenthetical sidebar in the article, Time says the following:

"Note to the hard-core faithful: the next version of Halo will not, repeat not, be ready in time for the launch of Xbox 360. It will be part of the all-important second wave next spring. 'It's perfect,' Gates says, radiant with bloodlust. 'The day Sony launches [the new PlayStation], and they walk right into Halo 3.'"

While Microsoft reps were not available for comment as of press time, Gates' comments appear to confirm the theory that Microsoft will release Halo 3 either simultaneously or near the release of Sony's next-gen console. It also marks further official confirmation that a third Halo is indeed in the works and will be released for the Xbox 360.

Although such statements might be interpreted as grandstanding, such a maneuver definitely would have an impact. Halo 2 sold more than 6.5 million copies to date and is credited with doubling the subscriber base of Xbox Live from around 750,000 to more than 1.5 million. It is also credited by industry-watchers as one of the main reasons for boosting sales of the original Xbox last holiday season.

XGC WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME…THE SYNDICATE (SYN)

Xgc Would Like To Welcome…the Syndicate (syn)

XGC would like to welcome the newest online organization (clan) into the Xiled Gaming Company. The Syndicate or SYN is an underground gaming organization that plays as underground gamers. An “underground” gamer is defined by Micro Soft as: If you aren’t afraid of a little trash talk, the Underground is for you. Not for the faint of heart. Motto: “Take no prisoners.”

XGC the “clan” is considered a “pro” or “recreation” area with an age rule of 18 years of age and up. KOG or Kings of Gaming is also considered as a “pro” or “recreation” environment with no rule of age. A “pro” gamer is defined by Micro Soft as: You aren’t going to settle for anything less than first place, but you respect the game and your competitors. Motto: “Play clean, play hard, play to win.” A “recreation” gamer is defined by Micro Soft as: It’s not whether you win or lose, but that everyone enjoys the game. Motto: “Kick back, relax, be considerate, and have fun.”

The Xiled Gaming Company recognizes all 3 of these gamers and now has organizations or “clans” that can represent these types of gamers. Everyone online is here for a different reason and has different expectations of what they can get from an online “clan” or community. The Xiled Gaming Company community now offers 3 of the 4 “gamer zones” that Micro Soft has set up. The Xiled Gaming Company wants everyone to get what they want from their online experience. Now with these 3 areas, all of our members can find a home and play with the gamers they most identify with. We all share 1 thing in common and that is the enjoyment of being online playing video games with people from around the world. No matter what type of gamer you are, you now have a home in 1 of the Xiled Gaming Company’s groups.

The Xiled Gaming Company would like to thank and welcome The Syndicate to the community. We look forward to a bright future and could not me more excited to have you in our community. Everyone who is apart of the Xiled Gaming Company please welcome this new division and its leaders to the family and check out their site.

LEADERSHIP

Leadership

By: XGC BLACKKNIGHT XL

I would like to say first that XGC is growing quickly and successfully. We can not do this without having good, quality leaders in place and by training the future leaders of XGC. Our LEADERS are doing an excellent job of this, for the most part, in every aspect of XGC. Lately, I have been approached by several subjects questioning when they would be promoted. The person usually states their case for the promotion and asks if they are doing something wrong or could be doing something better. I tell them the good, the bad, and the ugly. I then also advise them to keep working at it and they WILL get noticed and then promoted when the time is right.

The single biggest problem that I usually encounter is that the individual may be doing a decent job (minimum requirements), but does not understand what it takes to be a LEADER. I always say that you should \\\"LEAD BY EXAMPLE.\\\" A LEADER is defined by Websters Dictionary as \\\" a guide, one who shows or conducts the way, a chief or commander.\\\" That definition does not give a \\\"LEADER\\\" enough credit for what he/she does, decides, or deals with on any given day. A LEADER must be able to make decisions on their own without all the correct information. They must get both sides of a conflict, mix it together, and make a decision based on that mixture. By this I mean talk to the person brought the issue forward, the other person involved, and then anyone that was a witness to what conspired.

The decision a LEADER makes may also affects all of XGC not just the individuals involved. Some of the decisions I personally have to make affect all of XGC and KOG on a daily basis. I do this by asking the opinions of the persons above me and the persons below me in rank. I will take notation of their ideas and from that assistance, I will make my final decision. These are the decisions I make and luckily I have other DIVISION LEADERS to assist me. They also are responsible for the same type of decisions. There are a lot of members in XGC and KOG. NO lone subject should be able to say what goes. That is why XGC is based on a democratic style of operation.

A LEADER should be able to do many different things in a given day. They are responsible for talking with those members above them in rank if possible to check on issues, duties, or changes that need to be made. They should talk to members below them in rank to ensure that things are moving smoothly, that there are no issues, and that everyone is happy. This allows those above him/her in rank to know that he/she is doing stated job requirements and for him/her to find out if individuals below him/her in rank are doing their stated job requirements and if they are possibly ready for consideration of a promotion. A good LEADER will produce other good LEADERS, a person will NOT be promoted until there is someone ready to take their place.

A good LEADER also has the ability to deal with many different issues at one time. For example, a LEADER may be handling a small issue when another bigger issue might occur that needs to be dealt with in a timely matter. Before resolving the bigger issue another even bigger issue might come about. The LEADER will need to be able to think quickly, calmly, and without prejudice to resolve each individual issue. This will lead to great decisions.

These are a few attributions that make a good LEADER. Some people are born LEADERS and others have to put forth more effort. Our good LEADERS are noticed as well as the other leaders that are not doing their stated duties. I hope that this helps everyone and just remember, \\\"LEAD BY EXAMPLE!!\\\"
