The second map pack for Call of Duty Black Ops 2 was released for the Xbox 360 this week and, as always, will be coming soon to the Playstation 3 and PC. The Uprising Map Pack will cost you 1200 Microsoft Points ($15), just like previous ones, and it comes with four new multiplayer maps and a new Zombies mode called Mob of the Dead.
Mob of the Dead, which is an all new mode brings a few new twists to the classic zombies game mode. The story behind it is that four mobsters, played by actors Ray Liotta, Chazz Palminteri, Joe Pantoliano, and Michael Madsen, who are currently spending time behind the bars of the legendary prison on Alcatraz Island and are about to try to escape, when all hell breaks loose and zombies overrun the prison. It plays like a regular Zombies mode, with increasingly difficult waves of enemies, doors to unlock and windows to barricade, but your goal is to find aircraft parts scattered throughout the prison and escape the island. The new gameplay feature in Mob of the Dead is that when you die, or if you kill yourself, you will become a ghost-like figure that can electrocute enemies, revive your human character, levitate and even help complete some of the objectives. You can only enter this state so many times in each match and each time you do, you’ll have a limited amount of time to revive your human character before you die.
Moving on the multiplayer side, the four maps included in the Uprising DLC are the brand new Magma, Vertigo, and Encore and then the fourth map is a re-imagining of the original Black Ops map Firing Range, called Studio. Treyarch kept the layout of Firing Range intact, but they brought Studio to life by giving it a Hollywood movie studio makeover. You’ll fight through movie sets that you’d see in movies about Pirates, Aliens, old Westerns and there’s even a miniature city.
As for the brand new maps, there’s nothing wrong with any of them, but there’s also nothing extra special about them either. Magma is set in Japan, where a volcano has erupted and spewed lava throughout the streets, so you’ll have to watch your step in certain spots. Vertigo is set high up on the top of a skyscraper in India, and much like other Call of Duty maps set high in the sky, you’ll have to watch your step around the edge. Then there’s Encore, which is set around the stage of an outdoor concert in London. This map gives close quarter combat advantages, and if you like sniping, there are two main allyways that will not let you down. Encore is a simple map, with nothing really special about it.
Overall, Uprising on a scale of 1-10, I would have to give it a solid 8. I highly recommend getting this new expansion to the great experience and gameplay that Treyarch supplies us with every time we play.
