Organizational Leadership Personal Philosophy
The philosophical underpinnings of organizational theory offer the opportunity to explore, examine, elucidate, and evaluate my current understanding of Organizational Leadership. “Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal” (Northhouse, 2010 p. 3). The purpose of this paper is to share my current beliefs, assumptions, and understandings of Organizational Leadership. Leadership is a tool organizations use versus management. Managers dictate their employees and leaders use the power of persuasion to influence their employees to do things that they want to do whether it is positive or negative.
Nature of Leadership
According to Bennis, (2009) one person can live in the desert and not need a leader. Two people if truly compatible can live in the desert and not need a leader. However, if there are three or more people, someone would have to lead. Leadership is the guidance of a group; a group without guidance is a group begging to fail. In the society we live in today leadership has fallen beside the waistline. Corporations, governments, and other associations speak of leadership; however, as any individual observes, the world leaders, businessmen, and others are well oiled managers.

Ethics
Ethics is a person’s perspective of right and wrong (Alahmad, 2010). What is right in one person’s eyes is not necessary right in another person’s eyes. The real question is what is right and what is wrong. As a child you were told that it is wrong to hit another individual, though is there instances when this ethical standard is always wrong? The holy bible says “Thou shall not kill,” though is it ethically wrong to kill another human being when faced with death yourself? Alahmad 2010, states that we do not all share the same understanding of right and wrong. Over the world’s history there have been instances where humans have killed other humans and have not had to face punishment. When a leader gives meaning to their environment, animals, and other objects, the relevance of right and wrong can alter from one individual to the next.
