Patent Lawsuit Against Nintendo Dismissed
Written by: Steven Watts
Nintendo's success in the market has had an adverse side-effect, as the gaming giant has seen companies lining up to sue for patent infringement. Nintendo announced today that a patent suit filed against them by Fenner Investments Ltd. has been dismissed by U.S. District Court judge Leonard Davis. Davis said there is no need for a jury trial in the suit. Fenner claimed that the Wii and GameCube controllers infringed on patent number 6,297,751 for a "low-voltage joystick port interface." Full details can be found at the U.S. patent office link.
Nintendo's senior vice president of legal counsel Rick Flamm said he appreciates the court's decision. "Nintendo has a long history of developing innovative products while respecting the intellectual property rights of others," he said. "I would like to express our sincere appreciation for the tireless efforts of our legal team, which represented us so well."
