Over the years we have seen many forms of Batman. From cartoons, to movies, and even games. Nothing changed the face of Batman more than the recent film, The Dark Knight. Christian Bale and Heath Ledger's acting changed the classic view of Batman and Joker. What would be more exciting than a game bringing the twisted tale of Joker vs. Batman? Arkham Asylum is that story. The game features the familiar voice of Kevin Conroy. Conroy has been the cartoon voice of Batman since, Batman: The Animated Series (1992).
The Story:
The story starts in the Maximum Security Prison known as Arkham Asylum. The Joker has been recently captured by Batman and brought to this prison for safe keeping. Unfortunately the Joker is known for his creative escapes. With a quick manuever he is free of his captures and on the run. Playing as Batman you are forced to pursue this crafty criminal. Using the enviroment as a trap, expect many well planned attempts from the Joker to kill off Batman. Joker is never short handed, expect to fight alot.
The Gameplay:
Arkham Asylum is a third-person Brawler. While you may not be able to kick butt in the beginning scenes of the game. It is important to get used to the controls. Once Joker makes his escape the fun begins. Fighting off the Jokers hired help will earn Experience Points, using the points to buy skills will make Batman a little more deadly. One of the features that make this game stand out is the ability to see things that could be the difference between life and death. After all Batman is a man of creativity, and using the Air Ducts and structure of the building can often make your presence unknown. Sometimes you might find yourself stuck on a puzzle, don't despair. The game has a bulit in "Hey over here dummy mode". If you find your stuck you can use a special vision to see the best way to do something. Batman would to some be better known as an assassin. So what is better than stealth mode? Sometimes the bad out number the good by more than even Batman can handle. So just activate Stealth mode and with a little luck and alot of patience you can avoid the could have been an ugly little mess. The combat is solid, the puzzles intriguing, and even the youngest gamer will feel like Batman.
