Back in July of 2008, Square Enix president, Yoichi Wada, announced that the long exclusive series, Final Fantasy, was no longer an exclusive playstation game. What decisions lead the Director of Square Enix, Yoshinori Kitase, and the Corporate Executive, Shinji Hashimoto, to make this a Xbox Title. The release of Final Fantasy XIII was a title that Square Enix felt would reach more fans through the Xbox 360. Kitase said, "The Xbox 360 has turned alot of long time playstation fans into Xbox fanatics." In truth Square Enix feels like they would do better in sales if they open the series up to more of a fan base. According to Square Enix the game should play the same on both the PS3 and 360. Even with PS3's incredible engine, they wanted to make it as alike as possible. We can expect a different gameplay from the last Final Fantasy. With the built in memory and better engines Square Enix was looking to make the game even more incredible than previous. Expect monsters wandering around and a larger amount of enemies in Final Fantasy XIII. The world itself has grown because of the memory boost, the creators were able to bring a world filled with hours of exploration. The world of Fabula Nova Crystalis is still underwraps. We can hope to see some photo's closer to the release next month. With a new game comes a new story, Square Enix did mention that the game will have it's own story. Like in previous games, Square Enix has kept the story unique to previous games. So you will not need to play a previous game to understand what happens in Final Fantasy XIII. As you know, the PS3 version was completed first. Square Enix did however choose to hold the release until the transition to the 360 was complete. So the games will release together regardless of the current rumors that the PS3 edition will be out first.
Hashimoto: Just to clarify, in building a 360 version in addition to the PS3 version, it's important to note that we're not changing our minds and switching over to the Xbox 360 or anything like that, but rather simply creating a game for the PS3 while realizing that there could be more people playing the game if we also offer it on the Xbox 360 as well.
The Story:
With the making of a new Final Fantasy means alot of things. New music, characters, new worlds, and new story. What can we expect in the new Final Fantasy? Well as far as characters go I have taken the time to gather the main characters of Final Fantasy XIII.
Characters:
Looking to the Future:
As we look to April, it is with a hope that the most anticipated game in 2009 will not disappoint. We hope the story, characters, and new world will make us cry for joy. Through the years, Square Enix has made us laugh, cry and feel the pain the characters have suffered. We salute the many who have not only created the Final Fantasy games, but put there heart and soul into making games that will live through the ages. So when you pick up your copy of Final Fantasy XIII, remember to thank the many who created another masterpiece.
