Sony is hard at work on making sure its Home social network interface is done and available to the public before the end of 2008, reports CVG. Speaking at the Game 3.0 Conference in London, Sony Worldwide Studio vice president Jamie MacDonald commented that the developers are "madly working to make sure that date is hit, and it's going very well."

He went on to explain that the inspiration behind Home was seeing that for the average gamer, most online interaction is "geeky, tedious, and short." MacDonald says, "I got into a first person shooter online and I lasted about 15 seconds. It's not much fun. So that was really our driving force with Home, to provide an environment where it's fun to go, you can hang out with like-minded people."

Despite its history of delays, all indications are that Sony will hit the 2008 target. We recently heard that the November issue of Qore will include Home beta invites. Since Qore is only limited to those willing to pay for it, this would just be one step removed from an open beta. This all seems to be preparing for the inevitable 2008 launch, so the public at large shouldn't have much longer to wait.
