SPLITTING THE CLAN

Now that you've met the basic requirements for splitting a clan, you are ready to get the process in motion!

***I will refer to an entire XG clan such as XGC PROVITIS as a clan, and a Captain's squad (comprising of a Captain, Lieutenant, 2 Sergeants, and 6 Privates) as a squad***

Since you've already held several meetings prior to this moment going over the procedure with your Captains, you should be ready to move people over now. This is something that should be done as fast as possible. When you let it take a long time to get people moved over, you confuse many people into not knowing which clan they should be in, if they are moving, etc. The General(s) should have Gamer Tags in the new clan as well as the one that is being split. You want to make sure that the right people are Peons, Staff, and Overlord. Also, a Section Leader should have a Gamer Tag stay in the new clan as Overlord until it has reached 30 members.

Under optimal conditions, you would only want to send one General, one Captain, and that Captain's squad over to the new clan. This should only be 10 or so people. While this is under the best conditions, it does not always happen this way, and it works just as well several other ways. There have been successful clan splits throughout XG by doing it several ways. I like to send 2 squads over to the new clan (20-25 people) just so there are more members there to recruit new people into the clan. I have also seen members of a clan be split down the middle or the clan be split by taking half of the Captains and their squads to the new clan. All ways can work, but there are more problems that can arise in some than others.

First off, I would not recommend splitting a clan by its members right down the middle. Some members may not be active, and therefore won't be on as much to get over into the new clan. Getting this process organized successfully is also a large task, requiring a good amount of time and a lot of cooperation from everyone in the clan. Also, you do not want a clan to be hurt by a split. Splitting and removing members from one clan should never hurt it. This usually ends up happening when you try to move 40+ members over to a new clan, let alone the time and difficulty of getting it done successfully. I would recommend splitting a clan by it's Captains and their entire squads. It is relatively easy and fast to be able to just get a few Captains and their squads over to the new clan. While you can split the Captain's and their squads down the middle, it is best to just send 1-2 Captains and their entire squads. This makes it so no one is confused on whether they are going to the new clan or not and it also allows for minimal damage to be done to the success of either clan. The Captains and their squads that go to the new clan should be active, and the squads that are staying back in the old clan should also be active. You do not want to take anything away from either clan during splitting. If you feel that it is in your clan's best interests to split the Captain's evenly between the two clans, then make sure that you do not leave inactive Captains and their squads in one of the clans. This is the easiest thing to do and it will end up costing you in the long run.

While a Section Leader needs to be present before, during, and after this entire process, it is the General's responsibility to get the new clan running successfully and to also make sure the old clan is running successfully. When making a new clan, General's have the choice of the clan's symbols and colors. They also must make sure the clan structure is in place. After the dust has cleared and the majority of people have been moved to the new clan, you will still find people who are unhappy. If it can be agreed upon by both General's of the clans, that member may be allowed to go back to the old clan, or come to the new one, whichever it is that they wish. After the clan has been split, anyone that has a second tag in the new clan, or has 2 tags in 2 different XG clans needs to get that second tag out! Once the split has been done, everyone should go back to their respective clans and make sure they are funning successfully.

During the split, Section Leaders need to make sure the Honor Code is being followed and everyone is remaining professional. They should be communicating to and among the General's of both clans advising them on issues and helping them where needed. Also, having an experienced and trusted General oversee the clan-splitting process is a great learning tool for them in their pursuit of higher ranks. Section Leaders should be identifying and training possible future Section Leaders.

Once the new clan has been created, the General should make a request in the Help Desk to get a new section created for his/her clan on the forums. After this had been done, an official clan list should be posted in their area on the forums, and it should be updated at the end of each week.
