I'm not sure how many of you accept this, but lately I am convinced that some ones ping directly affects their ability to play online in shooting games through XBL. Back in the day (10+ years ago) when we did didn't have the 360, it was a given fact that whoever hosts the Q2 game would be the undisputed winner, and the 2nd place guy actually would be the winner since he was the first person who was playing fair.
With that being said, I've noticed that with out a doubt, the teams that REALLY seem to do good online all have 4 green, which means that either mommy sprung for a solid t1 line, or they all live within a 10-70 mile radius. I think that the latency of a players connection is ALMOST as important as skill. Now before anyone gets all irate with me, let me back it up with this: when I have a good connection I can snipe people across wasteland with an m4 and a red dot. However, with a crappy connection, it will take me an entire 30rnd mag to kill someone 10 feet in front of me on any other map. Notice how sometimes you'll throw a grenade and then about a second later it flies from your hand?
Ever get tired of walking around the corner, and dying instantly when you looked directly into a corner and saw no one there? Only to watch the kill cam and think "WTF! That dude wasn't even there". Not to mention only his first shot hits you, and then the other shots hit the wall 20 feet to your right and send splinters of wood in your direction (the splinters are actually what's killing you).
Anyway, I was thinking it would be a great test if a few of us partied up in the same area (I'm actually in Clearwater/Largo) then jumped in to some matchmaking. If there was 5 or more of us, it would guarantee that one of us would host, and I bet that anyone playing would swear they are playing the best that they have ever played. If not, we'll get some good gaming in.
