TIPS AND TRICKS

I wanted to start a thread where fellow XGC members could come and learn about the nuances of this game. Also any strategies would be welcome as well. I'll start it off with something I learned quickly.

Swords:
When in a 1 on 1 sword fight never use the R trigger to lead off. Instead wait for your opponent to lunge and use the B button to block. This has less of a stun time for you and you can then finish your opponent off with a lung.

Melee:
When you see your opponent closing in for a melee keep firing until they actually lung and make contact or just before. You have about a half a second to hit the melee button to force a contention after they have hit you. Then the system decides the victor on health alone. When you're opponent is lunging he is not firing therefor the last few bullets you put into them may tip the scale in your favor.

Any other tips, tricks, suggestions, strategies, etc. would be greatly appreciated and may just make us the #1 team in Halo 3. Helping others is always appreciated.

I add strafing also to the mix as to try and avoid more bee bees. That way the contention sides with me more often then not.

If its a 1 on 1 assult rifle battle your best bet is to aim for the head and if you get shot first jump and shoot is the best way to win. They miss alot you have time to catch up a little every bullet counts. If it's 2 on 1 rifle battle the best thing to do go around a corner wait till their close to the corner jump over them before they turn it (look at your radar to see when their close) and get the one in the back first or you should be able to get at least one of them. I usally find jumping helps me in lots of my battles.
Jumping and throwing grenades in semi-random spots usally works pretty well.

So that's why I always die when I know I got the melee first! Thanks for the heads up on that, now I can work on getting my timing right to melee right after they do.

Wow. Great tip, thanks.

The assault riffle can not do head shot so aiming for the head actually wouldn't be the best option. Any shots coming out at an upward angle with shoot over the head. Shooting at the chest will allow you to put more bullets into your target very much like the smg.

Throw grenades. Don't throw them during a firefight because you are doing yourself in unless you are very lucky or are positionally advantage (like being above them) in which case I would just keep shooting. Instead throw them at places you would be at or you notice many people go to or is a common pathway (as long as your team isn't in the way). Its not like grenades are that valuable, chances are you are going to get new ones pretty quickly.

Throw grenades and sticky's up the lifts. I've seen a crazy video of someone that threw a sticky up the lift on "The Pit" and it caught the guy who was camping. Sometimes you could get a couple of kills, I actually got a triple kill on a sticky I threw up the lift on "Construct"

Bullets don't do extra damage as headshots until the shields are down. With BR, 3 body shots, then headshot. With AR, start at knees, let recoil work your way up to head. It'll reach the head by the time shields are down.

In H3, if you go for headshots all the time, some bullets won't connect and you'll lose the firefight.

Yeah, check out going into custom games set to default and watching the grenade spawns: a lot of them are set at 10 seconds which can take place very quickly in a battle (ie: in the pit, the stickys over by rocket spawn "alley")

Also, don't forget you can study where exactly to look when you are standing in the same spot and the grenades will fly there every time. From the above mentioned spawn with a little practice it's easy to get the sticky's to land behind the "cover" at the top where brute shot spawns EVERY TIME

Who the hell said I was talking about the assault rifle?

1) not the proper way to respond to the post.
2) never said you did, in fact XGC M4ster said something about aiming for the head in an AR battle. Reading helps.
3) I'd not take things so personal on a message board unless something is specifically directed at you.

Have a nice day.
