Hey there! There's been a few requests for a tutorial on making a smudge tag... so here it is! Its a moderate level tag, so be paciente.
Here is what we are going to make
............................
Step 1:
Make a 375x150 canvas and fill it with black.
Step 2:
Make 2 circles... go to layer settings and give it an outter glow. You can give it an Inner glow too, but it might mess you up when your smudging.
Step 3:
I changed the outter glow to a lighter blue and got rid of the innner glow... and connected the dots with a slightly smaller brush. Then I took the smudge tool and smudged with my settings at 97% strength.
Step 4:
Next, I took a VERY light blue color and made a small circle behind the smudged layer to make it look like its emerging.
Step 5:
On a new top layer, I took a pinkish brush, about 30 pixels, and made a line across the bottom of the blue smudge area. Then i smudged that line with the same settings as the blue.
Step 6:
I applied the image... or as i like to do it, Marquee tool> highlight the whole image> Shift+ctrl+c > then Ctrl+V.
and then i went to Filters> Render> Lighting effects> and i did an omni on the light blue circle.
I adjusted the opaque of the layer to about 50%
Step 7:
All i did here was applied image and fixed up the lighting even more with the burn and dodge tools.
Step 8:
Gradient maps
Black and white set to luminosity at 100%
Orange Purple on soft light at 50%
Pink Yellow on overlay at 35%
Step 9:
It seemed empty still... so i added 2 space stocks and erased what looked bad, and then set opaque to what looked good.
Step 10:
I added a yellow and orange gradient map and set it to soft light at 35% opaque
Step 11:
Apply image 2 times and blur the top layer... erase around the focal or smudged area. Then sharpen the lower layer and lower opaque to what looks good.
Step 12: Last step... and its optional.
