it was preparation for the update, they were uploading new data to their servers to prepare the system for its biggest update.
aka
this way we don't have to wait 24+ hours in the future for them to prepare, and batch the update, they're getting it done ahead of time,it'll be here soon I think.

yea...i read that the original update was gonna be a 2 day deal so they've just gone and done half of it already and they'll do the rest later...

it was more like 24 hours down and then another 48 faulty disconnects because during almost all maintenance they screw something else up
