Unreal Engine 3 Gets MMO Dev Suite
Written by: Kat Bailey(1up)
It's the engine that can do anything. It's featured in shooters like Gears of War 2 and RPGs like The Last Remnant, and now it might be featuring in a few massively multiplayer online games as well.
Videogaming247 is reporting that the Unreal Engine 3 will be getting a full MMO dev suite, which will be showcased at the Game Developers Conference. Other new features include a scalable statistics and data management backend, a new global illumination solver and a content browser and search engine. All of which might not mean much to you, but may show up anyway in games that take better advantage of Epic's signature engine.
As for the MMO dev functionality, don't go expecting MMOs that look like Gears of War 2 just yet. Just tuck it away as an interesting tidbit for now. Hopefully something really cool and unique will come of it in a few years.
