When I first sat down with BlckKnght I was unsure of what to expect. I had heard horror stories before about how the council were the boogeymen of our community and they rarely talked to anyone outside of there tight nit circle. So when I was approached to interview BlckKnght I was apprehensive at best. But as I talked to him I quickly learned that those horror stories couldn't be farther from the truth. XGC BlckKnght XI has been with the community since it's inception in January of 2006 and has climbed the ranks from Section Leader to his current lofty position in the council. But he wasn't just handed this rank, far from it. Instead he had to earn his rank just like the rest of us, albeit from a slight advantage that most of us are not afforded. He was originally brought in after XG split from KSI as a Section Leader to prove his mettle and show that he was worth keeping in the community. He quickly showed an aptitude for leadership that had been here to fore unseen outside of the original council. After his success as a Section Leader it was clear that he was destined for greater things in our community and so he was moved up to Division Leader in XGC without a second thought. Once again he showed an almost uncanny aptitude for the position and was soon being looked at for the rank of Community Leader. Once there it didn't take him long to get his final goal in sight. A council seat.
Finally the day came when he was brought into the vaulted heights of the Council and given the title of XI.
But the story of BlckKnght is not all pomp and circumstance. There is also a more personal side to this great leader that few others see. In the time I was interviewing him I could tell that he was a kind but firm man with a very strong sense of justice and honor. I later found out some more personal details about him that would help me to flesh out this monolithic figure. While talking to him about various subjects I found out that he is an avid animal lover and has several pets all of which were rescue pets that either him or his wife found and nursed back to health. When asked why he simply said that he could not stand the sight of these animals being neglected so he brought them into his home and made them permanent parts of his family. When not dealing with community matters or work BlckKnght likes to kick back and enjoy some of his favorite pass times with his friends some of which include Softball and Hunting. As far as digital entertainment goes he prefers to kick it old school with CoD: WaW when he's not mixing it up with some randoms on Black Ops 2. When asked about his tastes in cinema he replied that he thoroughly enjoys Sci-Fi movies, his favorite of which being Aliens the sequel to the 1987 James Cameron movie Alien. In a way I feel that this interview was a sort of proof of concept. To show that the council, while respected, is not the boogeymen that a lot of members make them out to be. In the end they're people like you or I and have needs and wants, hobbies and pastimes just like the rest of us. They aren't some deific figures like some would have you believe but merely everyday people that just happened to help found the largest gaming community on Xbox Live, PSN, and PC. And while new members roll in every day the council will always be there in one form or another, fixing problems and making our community just that much greater.
