XBOX720

I've read the article linked above, and the article in the link in that article, and can respond saying that I think it would be overkill if microsoft brought out a new console this early in their career. Xbox 360's success is going full blown right now, and they're talking about bringing a new console around 2013-2014? Bad Idea.
Xbox 360 is most likely going to be one of the most popular consoles around still by that time, and if they bring out a new console, the population of the xbox live for xbox 360 will die. I disagree with their choice(if it is what they plan to do) to bring a new console in 2014.

I understand their movement to keep up with technology, but I don't want to be in a position where when 2013-'14 comes around and a bunch of sweet new 360 games came out, but oh wait, microsoft just brought out a new 720 that doesn't work with these awesome 360 games that just came out that you're in love with. I don't want to be in that kind of position. That is the primary reason why I disagree (like I said, if it IS what they plan to do) with their movement on the creation of a new console.

Very true blite.
& I assume when they do release a new system, that a good majority of xbox 360 games would be backwards compatible.

chances are that when the new console comes out, the min price is probably going to be $400-$450. I'm not going to spend that money on a new console, unless it's totally worth it. That doesn't include all the games that come out that you want to buy with the console, so add on another 60-70 dollars, depending on how many games you want for the new console. So your grand total at the end of one day is probably going to be a range of $460-$530 for both the console and 1+ game(s). :D

Well, the xbox 360 was only supposed to last until 2012. That's when they would stop manufacturing them and start introducing the new console. But it kept getting postponed to 2014; so none of this is a shock.

All I know is that I'm 90% sure I'm not getting any of the next generation of consoles. I'm pretty much done with video games; time to move on

the reason the 360 was called that was because it was backwards compatible with regular xbox games which i doubt they will name it the 720 but it will prob have xbox games for downloads and be backwards compatible with 360 games like the ps3 is

I don't think they should make it so soon cause they would still be making a lot of money off 360 until the 720 comes out then they really would make much off of live or anything. So I think its a bad idea at the moment.

It's obvious that if they bring out the Nex-Gen console this soon there will be community backlash of large proportion if it doesn't meet or greatly exceed expectations. The 360 is too fresh in most minds and Microsoft would be making a mistake to do anything much before Lthe last quarter of 13 or 14. Holiday time will tell.

i think they need to bridge the gap between the PC graphics and techno;ogy with the gaming consoles like the xbox360. yea its good right now but i can buy a brand new computer right now with the latest technology and be outdated less then 6 months. gaming consoles are so far behind the PC's they need to catch up so i support them coming out with the new console and am anxious in testing it out.

I would agree that they should wait another year or two before releasing or even announcing and revealing the next generation console, but not from the money perspective. The problem with electronics today is like someone above me said, they get outdated very easily and very quickly. You can release a console with the very latest in processor and graphic technologies and within a year they could replace it with a newly designed component that would make it even better.

For me, the next generation console needs to be something ground breaking in the video game world. It's pretty obvious that components like the graphics and such would be greatly updated to allow for much better but also more realistic imagery. If you look at PC and games like crysis or if anyone has seen previews of the new cry3 engine, the games today look almost like a realistic virtual world, and this is where console designers need to step it up so they can bring those same elements into the next gen. xbox, playstation or w/e new console could be made. Whether they were to come out with a new console this year or not, people would still buy them and companies like microsoft would still make a large profit from it, but they need to ensure they make everything right and make it up to our expectations as their customer base

yeah theres really no purpose for a new xbox to come out the 360 is fine for now like you guys have said theyre still making plenty of money so theres no point.

I'm just taking a shot in the dark here so let me fet my flame suit on and prepare. My guess is this that most of you who are poo pooing the anouncement of a new system are owners of the new black xbox360. So you just made an investment in more storage space and what ever other changes they made. But for thouse of us who still have the old white 360 its not such a bad thing because we havent spent the money for the upgrade or our xbox hasnt broke yet. (now that i say this mines going to blow up tonight i see it now.) As long as the 720 is backward comptible it will sell just fine and just try to look at it as an upgrade for when your box enevitably takes a dump. I also agree that consoles are far behind computers but with out dating tech it is hard to keep up. Unless they travel in the direction that Sony went and have remoable components so if a new hard drive, grafics card, or an updaded motherbord comes out you can pay to have that new tech and install it there for keeping the same system alive for alot longer. who knows 720 games might be playable on the 360 but to a limit but I dought that. We wll find out in time that is for sure.

I believe its a waste, (not saying i believe they are producing it but if they are) it would make more sense to let the xbox grow for a few more years, and just get updates, until the community starts to die again, and then release the new console, also most people wouldnt buy it seeing they only just got new xbox 360's and such.
