Watchdogs2 Review

If you were a fan of the first Watchdogs, then this game is for you. Not only have they upgraded the maps/game play, but the story itself is fantastic. A lot of people have said that if you are from the San Francisco Bay area, then you will feel right at home. When they first announced this game, I was really hoping to see Aiden Pierce back in action, although a lot of gamers did not like his character… However, with this game, we focus on the hacking group ‘Dedsec’ as mentioned numerous times in the first game.

The game revolves around a hacker named Marcus, who is recruited into Dedsec, a vigilante hacker group set out to target Government and Corporate entities. Within this group are several other hackers: Wrench, Horatio, Sitara and Josh. Each hacker, has their own set of quirks that sets them apart from any other person in the game. What makes this game fun though, is the fact that it is exactly like GTA, but only you get to hack people, city environment (traffic lights, cameras, cranes, explosions), cars (change directions), etc.… The hacking gives you an extra boost during missions, for the fact that you can hack your enemies to distract them, blow them up (yes, that is right), get them arrested, or get them involved with a gang attack. With this ability, you can do missions a little better, and less likely to get caught.

Even with the ability to hack, the missions in this game are still incredibly hard. Just like any other game, no matter how many people are in your group, you are still the only person going to missions and completing them. For instance, I had one mission at an FBI hideout that I had to infiltrate that took me at least 10x to complete. There is one of me, and 20+ guards, some armed, and some who can call reinforcements. You can use a little remote control car or drone that is less likely to get caught, but unfortunately can’t do everything in a mission.

My Cons for this game is the fact that button layout is completely different than first game, so that took a lot of adjusting on my part. In first game, you had a little device called a blackout, which blacked everything out and enemies couldn’t see you, so you could move from one part of a mission to the next while blackout was in use. You do not have that here. Another thing, would be the number of puzzles you must complete… I despise them and I am sure I am not the only one…

Apart from the Cons, the game really is good and fun. You can play solo, or you can team up with a friend, or a random. It is whatever you choose to do. This game is good for boosting your gamer score, and passing time when you don’t want to play COD, or BF1. Let me know what your opinions were on the game, as well as your list of Pros/Cons. If you haven’t played the game yet, I would recommend playing them in order, so you can get the background knowledge. There will be things said/done in the second one, that you won’t understand fully without knowledge of first game. Enjoy!
