What makes a community a community?
The word community comes from the Latin communis, meaning "common, public, and shared by all or many."
People have formed communities from the days of the earliest hunter-gatherers. Communities are distinguished by enough participants in a group caring for the common good, developing a sense of community, in which they give of themselves. A crucial factor is the balance between self-interest and shared interests.
Whatever drives people to cooperate in the first place is not as important in the context of community as what makes them continue to associate. Lasting ties between and among people are what is important in the formation of viable communities. Successful efforts by a mix of participants tend to attract the attention of other less-connected individuals who may seek to join a group that is succeeding.
The majority of the founding Leaders of Xiled Gaming, came together to launch a community of like minded gamers, who wanted to have fun online, and not deal with drama, to build a large community where everyone is appreciated and made to feel welcome.
For the most part we have succeeded, aside from a few individuals who have no clue why they are here, other than to regularly put others down for not being as available as they should be, or making others feel inadequate about the amount of time they spend on 1 game (Halo2), regardless of the amount of communication they have with others on other games, MSN, email, or phone calls.
The problem I see with a few individuals in our community, is they seem to have tons of time to sit in rooms and discuss what is wrong, to ***** and moan about the inabilities of some members, to complain and think about leaving the Xiled Gaming community, but they fail to find the time to try and repair the errors that all large organizations have. It is only natural that when you have a large community of different backgrounds that you are going to have bumps in the road.
These individuals do more harm then good, by contemplating and complaining on a daily basis of what is wrong, they are neglecting those members that need their help or attention, they should just leave, whenever someone says to me that they are thinking about leaving, I usually say, “What’s the hold up, see ya!”
Xiled Gaming is growing everyday, more and more gamers are joining, new leaders are coming forward, old members that don’t understand what it is all about are leaving. We are poised for a large growth spurt here in a couple months, the Xbox 360 is opening a lot of doors for our members, new games, new gamers, and tons of new experiences.
We have web sites for everyone, an awesome forum system that is available for all, and a BRAND NEW Tournament and Bracketing system, for online events and clan matches.
Xiled Gaming is definitely the place to be now and in the future, with a Brand New PC division starting, we are going to be able to stretch our domain across the online gaming world, like no other clan or community could of ever dreamed of.
So in review, get with the program, be a contributing member of our community or get out, not hard, pretty direct. We need members and leaders here that care about each other and the gaming community, if you can not get on the boat with the majority, take a swim with the minority.
