Oblivion does end in a sense... but not before hundreds of hours of entertaining gameplay... if only an fps could follow that, I could die happy...

The only thing wrong with that is that you would get tired of playing that fps and you would be saying to yourself when does it end. There has to be a little more to it to be that long then just shooting enemies the whole time.

Yes, and I think a prime example of that is S.T.A.L.K.E.R.... it wasn't too long, but it was more than long enough to be satisfying. Granted, that game had more than it's fair share of bugs and wasted so much of its potential because of that, but it was a very open-ended shooter that, if you explored like you could have, took more than 30 hours to finish even when NOT doing everything you could have. The blend of shooting and exploring is a tough one, but one that a game can pull off in some way by making the best of both worlds come together in a form of balance and giving you more things to do than shoot. Oh, and Oblivion, same thing can be said for bashing enemies with a sword over and over, so it goes for any game that is long...

STORY, TOO SHORT?

Story, too short?

I would think they are to short. Ive played Halo 1,2 and 3 and beat them all in about 3 hours each on the highest Difficulty. Same with CoD 2 & 4. Though i don't see many with the achievement for CoD 4 on Insane Difficulty. The racing games are a little longer, and Oblivion was the longest, but it isn't online. I'm thinking that GTA 4 is going to be the overall best for time online and off.

COD4 campaign is short but incredibly hard on Veteran, and GTA games barely have a story its about drive bys and beating up hookers

since the development of the online gaming community, most games produced now are driven for online gameplay (multiplayer vs. battles) the problem with most games is that the gamers tend to get bored with a campaing mode when they know there is an online multiplayer mode, with Halo3 they integrated the campaign into online, but it wasn't the driving force behind the game. Halo 2 was one of the luanch games for xbox live so Bungie studios recognized right away that the online community would greatly outperform the campaign, they spent more time developing the multiplayer wich in tern made for a short easy campaign mode, as with most games that com out now. COD4 made their campaign more desireable to those wanting to get the gammerscore for achievments since all the achievements are campaign based and not online. COD4 is still realativley easy on campaign and not very long becuase more emphasis was put on the online game. I think that GTA4 will most likely be the same way becuase it has xbox live multiplayer also.
Unfortunatly the days of spending 100's of hours playing through final fantasy type games to get 100% compplete is pretty much over, allthough there are still some games like it out there.
