idk... i have a fav in each genre... i'd have to narrow it down to two...

modern rock= rage against the machine

classic rock= led zeppelin

i dont know why, but i never really did like RatM
i like the ideas and such behind their music. but i just dont enjoy listening to it... o.0
Zepplin will always be awesome... lol nice choices coleslaw.. :p

i dont know why i cant put a finger on what i would say is my favourite band...
i have been really into Rise Against lately...
i used to be all about Green Day, but when they released American Idiot, i really enjoyed listening to the album, but over time it just faded away for me. and with the new album that i dont even care what its called, i just.... dont have an opinion on Green Day anymore..
but yes, at this point i would say Rise Against is my favourite, with second place being the group called "Clutch"
if you havent heard clutch... please listen to them.. i saw them play live in Edmonton, AB, Canada last August and it was an EXCELLENT SHOW... best concert i had been to. and i went and seen KoRn when they were @ the TOP. and Green Day, Tool, Deftones.. just to name a few... but Clutch gave me the most awesomest Mosh pit experiences i have ever had xD

oh come on!!! broaden your spectrum..
rap and country arent so bad!!!
alot of new rap now a days is kinda tasteless i agree. blah blah money money bentley shooting (excriment) ya ya. but there is still some good rap out there.
if you arent into the gangsta scene, i recommend listening to Asher Roth, two good songs are I Love College, and Roth Boys... you tube it... quite enjoyable actually....

country, well.. i am not a country fan myself, but i live in Alberta Canada, so i dont have a choice. i cannot avoid country music because everybody listens too it. but i would say i would enjoy mostly the fusion country style of Steve Earle .... good stuff Copperhead Road anybody??
and best choice from him is Guitar Town ... LOVES IT!!!!

I like all kinds of music so I will save myself some criticism by saying that Rap music doesnt really have bands but more like groups. Young Money being one of them. I really enjoy Train, ACDC, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and I have been really getting into Avenged Sevenfold's "Bat Country"
I do not listen to bands much though because I enjoy solo artists a little bit more.

i agree with Bpley about green day completely... i was into american idiot for a while, but just stopped listening to green day completely... i even went to see green day at the american idiot tour... i like rage against the machine because i love their guitarist... tom morello is awesome with the axe...

best live shows should be a different thread completely, because some bands are completely different live... some good some bad...

Best live show: slipknot -i'm not even a big fan, but the show they put on was amazing
Best live music: disturbed - they put on a good show, but they were more about the awesomeness of their music than fancy pyro and such
Worst live music: Hawthorne hights - they didn't sound anything like the CD... really bad live
Biggest live dissapointment: Dragonforce - they really can't perform live about 50% of the stuff you hear on the Cd... i was so excited to see them just thrash, and instead it was pretty awful live

i heard slipknot puts on a wild show.. but i missed my chance to see them.
and a couple of my buddies went and saw dragonforce and they said it was complete garbage. which i was disapointed by. you would think Herman Lee (Li ?) would be able to shred live because you see him go crazy on videos and such. but yeah apparantly it is not worth paying money to watch them live.
and i also heard that disturbed was pretty good live.. never had a chance though...

Van Halen
Rush
Metallica
but then again i was never a big GnR fan...

i'll give you metallica, but i'm sticking to my guns (ha i made a funny)

nirvana started in the 80's...

and ACDC had a lot of hits in the 80's, but i associate ACDC with 70's rock more than 80's...

i'd vote for top 80's band to go to a tie between GNR and Metallica... but i could be persuaded if there is someone else i'm leaving out... but other than a few names, i'm generally not an 80's fan

yeah there are alot of excellent artists who made music in the 80s.. but are from the 70s like ACDC, ZZ-Top, Judas Priest... i consider mostly 70s stuff...
lemme work on it for a bit,... i will give you a better band than GnR...
and yes Nirvana started in the 80s, and Bleach was an excellent album.. but they didnt really evolve into what Nirvana is seen as now adays until early 90s
so i consider them 90s music...
but there has to be something i can prove to you was better than GnR in the 80s..
lemme think.. lol
