Well for one, you should create a Photobucket or Deviantart account to upload your created signatures on. When you upload them as files on the website, you lose quality.

On the first one, I dont like the multi-color effect you have on there, its very distracting....when choosing effects to go into your sigs you have to choose wisely done just throw anything in there. Some things you want to consider when choosing effects are color scheme and flow. Here are some in depth tutorials on both of these, hope this will help!!

PS did you use one of the tutorials I had posted in the Week #68 Image thread??

On the first draft, yea I pretty much was just getting into it and threw it together lol. This mornin I got into gimp to learn what everything did and how to use it and made a second draft. I was trying to follow the tutorial but I didn't know what half of it was lol so that's why I got into it today. I've figure out a lot and will keep practicing with the other pics that r up and try to follow all the tutorials you've shown me here thanks alot.

OK. On deviantart.com search for gimp brushes. Open the fire page and click on download. After download they will need extracted or unzipped. When you are able to view the contents of the folder. Highlight all files inside of folder and copy them. Click on your name or contents connected to your name. Choose file section under gimp brushes and paste the files inside of that folder. Restart gimp and the brushes should be ready to use. I also lock my toolbars with chosen contents. You can try to google tool set ups for gimp and checkout youtube.

It takes guts to post in the design area when you first start. I commend you for that! You have some way to go. Personally out of the three your second is my favorite. The background on the third seems blurred, and simple. Try to stay away from using that much of an outer glow(or whatever effect it is) on the render. The render looks like it has been stretched, but then again im only a bystander and dont make sigs. I would recommend hanging out with one of the gimp users on the team and learning from them.

The brushes will give you effects like that white smoke at the feet of my lady samurai. They are the most used commodity in the gimp bar for me. The locked tool bars are those little arrows next to close window x. You can add tool bars such as the layered bar among others. They are then locked in along either side of the screen. Choose in the menu next to the help to lock the tools in permanently after selecting favorites. The layer tools will allow you to move between layers easily as well as find different backgrounds or foregrounds to help add depth to you render. if you have any questions about setting your gimp up give me a call, I'll send my number in private message to you.

Yeah there are quite a few different brush programs. After using them for a while you will find about five brushes you use constantly and the rest will just sit there. I don't know if you saw but you can download text the same method as the brushes. Another piece of advice is I usually trash all the images and renders after I am done with them. It will keep you computer moving quickly for the next sig. You could save things in your photobucket but you will see each sig requires different attention and ideas to get it off the ground. It has been my experience that even if something needs changed on a prior sig you will make it look even better the second time around. The other thing is that after a sig I usually will walk away from it for a couple of hours and come back to finish things up before I post it. Art work is just like writing it needs proofread a number of times before it is perfect. Plus your work is always better in your eyes after completion and you will blindly overlook obvious errors. Give it awhile and come back and you will see the errors before posting it.
