I'm not going to go into too much detail, but I was a West Coast Marine and graduated from MCRD San Diego. As long as you do what you're told, when you're told to do it, you won't have many problems. I graduated in 2005, back then the DI's still beat you, still cussed you out, and still emphasized the good ole knife hand. lol

If you want to know any specifics on what I went through, just send me a PM here on the site or shoot me a message on xbox live.

was up everyone I am actually very interested in joining the army im just not sure how basic training is going to go, currently I am in the process of joining but my citizenship is holding up the process but I am able to take the citizenship test on august 17 but once that is through I will be able to continue. So i was wondering if I could just get your guys's opinion on the whole BT thing. Im not in the best shape and I sure as hell can't run that far without getting winded so I was just wondering what you guys thought of my situation :) thanks in advance

I served in the US Marine Corps from 98-2003/ 2004.
I went to MCRD Parris Island in Sept 1998.
We had a blast, games, good food, fun times, warm chats by the fire.. Everything I wanted in a Marine Corps Recruit Training Environment!!!!!!!

I did Basic at Fort Jackson, SC in august which was miserably hot and humid. As far as basic I was raised by a Navy Captain so basic was no big deal. I was already used to being yelled at and having to make my bed so tight you can bounce a quarter off it. The only thing I really learned in Basic was how to hit those 300 meter targets with a M-16, and how to shine boots. People make alot more out of basic than what it really is. The thing about basic you have to understand is to create a Army Issued solider they have to break and strip you down both physically and mental to rebuild you back to what they need to function effectively in battle. I really think if more youth actually got to spend 4 years in the military out of high school they would be better adjusted as adults.

Did anyone else when they took you into the gas chamber and made you take a breath leave the gas chamber with snot flowing out of your nose, partially blinded and running around flapping your arms like a chicken or was if just me

man When I went through the gas chamber it was hell. I am 5ft 6 andI was 123lbs at the time. I had a dude behind me pass out and fall on me right after they made us take our pro mask off. It would not have been so bad had the guy not been 6'3" and 324 lbs. The other bad part was then the DI started yelling at me to carry his big butt out. Other than that basic was awsome once I got it into my head that I chose to join the army. No one made me you know. But it was definitly a shock to the system.

Yeah Zues by the time I got out I was the same way. The gas didn't do to much. I remember in basic we had one kid who was heavy set and the DI's always messed with him. One day the kid yelled back at them, when they were done with him he ended up in the hospital. He had a mini stroke which led into a heart attack. needless to say he went home and I never heard of anything happening to the DI's.

If you're actually in the army... why are you calling them DI's??? The first time you call a Drill Sergeant a Drill Instructor... you're @$$ is grass... at least when I went through in 2006...

My experience for basic? Fort Sill, Oklahoma, early summer of 2006...
First 5 day field exercise was spent in 115 degree weather during week 5, which at the time was "special weapons familiarization." After the first day in the field even my lips were sunburned. My bottom lip swelled to twice its normal size, turned purple, and cracked down the middle. And of course there was a lot of mind-f%%%ing too. But that's with every basic. Oh and I just wanted to put this out there... when I went to Fort Sill, women weren't there. all male. (tougher).

When I went thru Marine Corps bootcamp, it was sir yes or sir no sir. If we would have called them anything other than that it would have been hell to pay. Not that they needed an excuse to extract the payment. lol.

Mine was when i went to the WFTbn,

I was working in the pits for the targets and one of the DI's that was my Drill hat came over to me to do the qual papers, another Rec at the time looked down and saw a caterpiller, and said

"Hi Mr Caterpiler"

My DI looked at me and gave me a puzzled look. MY Drill hat then said to the rec

"Go pick it up and tell SGT Black what you found"

I laughed and i could have sword i saw a smile come from my drill hats mouth. lol

Another was the Reaper Hike, enough said

and lastly i would like to say that Gold 2155 Honor Platoon for 2011 will always be the best!

I had a good time at basic. I just graduated out of BCT last month, and now Im still in my AIT at FT Lee VA. I went to basic at Ft Jackson. As far as the nickname "Relaxin' Jackson" it depends on what batallion youre in haha. Mine, and one down the street had it pretty hard, an actual BCT experience, but another batallion across the way got big pizza parties for phase changes, phones on the weekend, hardly ever got smoked, etc. In my opinion its BCT overall is to easy these days. If I hadnt been blessed with great drill sergeants I wouldnt consider myself ready for combat based off of the BCT program..

All of the obstacle courses were fun, IE Team Development Course, Confidence Course, etc. Repelling the wall was my favorite I think, and the gas chamber the least favorite. Although I was congested before and not after going in haha. Another great aspect of BCT is I became great friends with alot of my battles in my platoon and continue to talk to them often a month after graduation and dont see that changing anytime soon. My biggest dissappointment is my marksmanship. I shot well the whole time, and should have been expert, but on qualification day I rushed myself a bit and hit 33 to get sharpshooter. Still not bad, but should have been better..

Also alot of PT. I ate a ton more in BCT then I ever did at home but still lost 25 lbs.. Hooah
