For the test images, you had a thick line going past their focal's heads. The thing about lines is that they take most of the attention and give it to whoever they intercept. So everything else the line doesn't touch or is far away from receives less attention. Lines also stop the viewers eyes and help them focus on something. Basically, lines is what the eyes follow. Erm, hope you get what I mean lol.
