Being an owner of both an Xbox360 and PlayStation3 i am faced with a difficult choice. As many of you I'm sure have heard, Both the Sony Entertainment Corporation and Microsoft Studios plan to release their hands free controllers. But the question is, Which should i buy? Will it be the PlayStation Move or Microsoft's Kinect? In this article i plan to do a comparison to answer just such a question.
Let's start with Microsoft's project. Formerly known as 'Project Natal.' Now the official launch name Kinect, is almost ready to be played. So what is this device and how does it work? Kinect for Xbox360 is a small bar that sits on a small stand beneath or on top of your television. Within that bar are a couple of cameras that track you and your friends' every move. The clever bit is that you don't have to wear any dedicated clothing or detectors, nor do you have to hold a device like a Wii Remote. It works out where you are, and then tracking your entire body relays that information back to the software, which decodes it and then feeds that information to the game you are playing. If controlling your console and the games that have been designed for the Kinect system with your arms, feet, head and body wasn't enough, you can also do so with your voice, giving your console commands as if you were in the game.
Microsoft has promised over 15 titles already for launch day and that doesn't include a selection of games expected for after launch and beyond in 2011. Ubisoft, EA, Warner Bros, Sega and Lucas Arts have all promised titles for the new accessory ranging from racing games, to fitness, to playing a Jedi knight in a Star Wars spin-off.
Next is the PlayStation Move. The Sony PlayStation Move is a set of two controllers that give you motion control gaming above and beyond what the console's current Sixaxis controller offers you and the chance to get into the game as if you were really there.
Now before you ask, what makes this different from the Wii, I'll tell you. The level of precision that Move brings is unparalleled to the Wii. The camera actively tracks the Move Controllers as apposed the Wii which uses motion sensing. Because the camera actively tracks the controllers, it knows exactly where the controller is.
Sony has announced 16 dedicated titles for PlayStation Move available on the day of launch and 40 more expected to hit throughout the holiday season before the year is out, providing experiences for all types of gamers.
In my opinion I'm going to be going with the Kinect, because i already own a Wii. To me buying move would be like buying what i already have. Where as buying Kinect is a whole new experience free from controllers what so ever. But I'll let you decide what to buy for yourselves.
